Professor Jerry Uelsmann, a former professor of film and photography at the University of Florida,
conducted an experiment on his students.
One day he divided his class into two and he would grade these two groups based on different sets of criteria.
One of the group were graded based on the no of photos they took. So at the end of the semester each individual should submit maximum number of photos
They got an A if they took 100 photos, B if they took 90, C if they took 80 and so on.
The second group was graded based on the quality of photo they took. They only had to submit one photo at the end of the semester. But it should be a really good photo to get an A.
So the First group took maximum photos they could and the Second group researched on how they could take the best photo possible.
At the end of the semester what Prof. Jerry found was astounding.
He noticed that the photos the First group took were better in quality than what the second group took.
Do you know why?
Because what the first group did was action and what the second group did was motion.
The students in the first group took so many photos, fiddled with the settings, took photos in different exposure temperature all that stuff.
While what group B did was researching and studying how to take the best photo.
Its not that motion isn’t good. But people who take action will eventually get better than those who are currently studying on how to make the best possible action.
So, start taking action from today. Don’t expect the best possible outcome. Don’t fear to loose. Eventually you will win.
